We will showcase the sanctuaries that have given forever homes to the wild horses of Colorado, and those that are gentling and training the wild horses . Many listed on this page have all stepped up to take older wild horses or those that were left without bids. Without their help many of these wild horses would not have found homes. Some of these sanctuaries or rescues will gentle or train the younger wild horses and find forever homes for them. Please take a moment to look at their sites and if you can donate it would be truly appreciated.
Banditas is a wild mustang advocacy group made up of 3 board members, Cindy Harrison, Amanda DeNeice and Gary Gould. We focus on finding as many homes as possible for the Wild Horses captured via roundups and held in holding facilities.
We search for large and small landowners who are willing to house Wild Horses that have been removed from the Herd Management Areas, providing the horses with a long-term, safe landing sanctuary home. This includes any safe opportunity of accessible land, whether it's a private owner (leased or donated), sanctuary, or our own land purchases. If you do not have land, but always wanted to help a horse, we have a few to pick from that you can sponsor! If you have available land to donate, let us lease it from you! If you can do both-great! Banditas has purchased/adopted 19 Sand Wash Basin Wild Horses. We are currently working on 1 more now and plan for a few mares once they are available to adopt or purchase. They have all been placed on properties located in Colorado. The land is either leased, donated, or homes of our board members. Finally, the horses have a new freedom! Banditas has collaborated with Steadfast Steeds, an organization operated and ran by Tracy Harmon, located in Glade Colorado. 3 older horses and 1 younger will have a forever home there! Banditas purchased 4 Sale Authority mares from the March 2022 adoption event and 3 Sale Authority geldings from the October internet adoption event and they have all been placed at The Refuge, owned, and operated by Pat Craig of the Wild Animal Sanctuary. Any horse adopted by Banditas has a forever home. While some may be trained, others will not. We offer a complete “re-wild” setting. If the horse chooses to engage, it is on their time frame-never forced.
Please contact us so we can help you through the process of adoption!
